Best Time to Visit Hunza — Season-by-Season Guide

By Dilawar Khan · 1 min read

Hunza is beautiful year-round, but each season offers something different. Here is how to choose your timing for the trip up the Karakoram Highway.

Spring (March–April): blossom season

Spring is magical, when the apricot and cherry orchards burst into pink and white blossom against snow-capped peaks. It is one of the most photogenic times to visit — see our Spring Blossom (Hunza) Tour.

Summer (May–September): the classic season

Summer is the most popular time, with warm days, open high passes and lush green valleys. This is the ideal window for the full Hunza & Nagar tour, including trips up toward the Khunjerab Pass. Roads are generally at their best.

Autumn (October–November): golden colours

Autumn turns the valleys gold and amber, with crisp, clear air and fewer crowds — a favourite among photographers.

Winter (December–February): snow and calm

Winter is quiet and starkly beautiful, with snow across the valley. It is a special experience, though some higher routes and passes may be closed; we will advise on conditions for your dates.

Getting there

However you time it, the journey is a long, spectacular drive along the Karakoram Highway, best done in a capable Land Cruiser with an experienced mountain driver. See the Islamabad to Hunza route for details, and our northern areas guide for the wider region.
