Naran & Kaghan Valley — Travel Guide from Islamabad

By Dilawar Khan · 1 min read

The Kaghan Valley, with Naran at its heart, is one of Pakistan’s most loved mountain escapes — alpine lakes, rushing rivers and the high drama of Babusar Top.

The highlights

  • Lake Saif-ul-Malook — the jewel of Naran, a glacial lake framed by peaks (reached by jeep from Naran).
  • Babusar Top — a spectacular high pass with sweeping views, open in the warmer months.
  • The Kaghan Valley drive — riverside villages like Balakot, Paras and Shinu on the way up.

The ready-made Naran–Kaghan 3-Day Tour covers all of this at a comfortable pace.

Best time to go

Naran is a summer destination (roughly May to September). The valley is green and the high routes to Lake Saif-ul-Malook and Babusar Top are typically open. In winter, heavy snow closes the upper valley, so timing matters — we will confirm what is accessible for your dates.

Getting there

It is a long, beautiful ascent from Islamabad via Abbottabad, Mansehra and Balakot. The road becomes rough higher up, so a Prado or capable SUV with an experienced driver is the right choice. See the Islamabad to Naran route for details.
