A Safer Way to Experience Nathia Gali in Winter
The Khan family from Rawalpindi wanted to spend a winter day in Nathia Gali and Ayubia after fresh snowfall. However, their previous experience had made them cautious. Their front-wheel-drive sedan had struggled on the climb, and recent reports of vehicles sliding on icy sections above Donga Gali made driving themselves feel unnecessarily risky.
We arranged a Toyota Prado 4x4 with suitable tyres and assigned a driver experienced with the Galyat route in winter. He had already travelled the road twice that week and knew which areas remained covered with packed ice during the morning.
The departure was scheduled after the sun had been on the road for approximately one hour. This helped reduce the risk of travelling over the hardest early-morning ice. The driver was also instructed to turn back at Donga Gali if the road towards Nathia Gali became unsafe.
The family reached Nathia Gali Bazaar, enjoyed the fresh snow and travelled through the Ayubia area without experiencing any traction problems. They began their return journey early enough to reach the lower road around 90 minutes before the expected afternoon refreeze.
The family enjoyed their snow day without having to assess unfamiliar winter road conditions or make difficult safety decisions themselves.
