The currency
The local currency is the Pakistani rupee (PKR). Cash is widely used for everyday purchases, taxis and small vendors, so it is worth carrying some.
Getting cash
There are ATMs at the airport and throughout the city that accept international cards, and licensed currency exchange counters for changing money. It is wise to withdraw or exchange a reasonable amount on arrival so you are not caught short, especially before heading to smaller towns where ATMs are fewer.
Do cards work?
Larger hotels, restaurants and shops in the city often accept cards, but many smaller vendors and most street taxis are cash-only. Tipping
Tipping is appreciated but not obligatory. For a driver who has looked after you well — especially on a long tour — a modest tip is a kind gesture. There is never any pressure, and our prices are fixed, so a tip is entirely at your discretion.
