Moving to a gated society: what to arrange

Many housing societies and apartment complexes require prior approval before a goods vehicle can enter. Contact the management or society office a few days ahead to arrange a gate pass, share the truck details, and confirm the driver’s and crew’s ID requirements so security lets them straight in.

Ask about permitted moving hours and any limit on vehicle size, as some societies restrict large trucks or only allow moves within set windows. Knowing this early lets the mover send a vehicle that is actually allowed through the gate.

For apartments, book the service lift in advance and check its size and weight limit, and ask where the truck can park and how far items must be carried to the door — a long carry adds time and labour that is easier to plan for than to discover on the day.

Note any deposit, cleaning or move-in charges the society applies, and give your mover the gate name, block and unit number clearly. A short call between the crew and the guardhouse before arrival avoids the truck idling outside while paperwork is sorted.
