The vehicle is typically inspected so the chassis and engine numbers can be verified against the record, and biometric verification through NADRA is now commonly required to confirm both identities. Any outstanding token tax must be settled, after which the MTMIS record is updated into the buyer’s name. Because charges depend on engine capacity and the car’s year and are revised from time to time, check the current fee with the Excise office or through the official MTMIS channels rather than assuming an older rate.

One of the strengths of MTMIS is that you can verify a Punjab-registered vehicle’s ownership and status before buying, which helps you avoid stolen or disputed cars. Cross-check the registration number, chassis and engine details, and the owner’s name against the system, and make sure token tax is clear so unpaid dues do not land on you after purchase.

As with Islamabad, complete the transfer promptly rather than leaving the car on an open file. Until the buyer’s name appears in MTMIS, the seller remains the registered keeper and any traffic challans or liabilities stay tied to them.
